Show FOREST SERVICE HAS SPENT MONEY FOR ROADS One activity of tho forest oervico which seldom commands mora than local attontion is the construction of permanent improvements designed to facilitate tho use and enjoyment of the National forests by the general public and to strengthen tho protective protec-tive work of tho forest organization. Tho records' of the local district office show that in District Four alono, tho expenditures for permanent improve ment work during the past seven, years have reached tho enormous total to-tal of $779,000. This amounts to almost one-third of the receipts from the forests during tho same period. In Utah tho forest service has constructed con-structed 260 miles of roads, 492 miles of trails, 953 miles of telephone lines, 17 bridges, 2 miles of flro breaks, 10 lookout structures, 90 ranger cabins, 55 barns, 252 miles of fonco and 14 corrals. Ono hundred and eighty-two eighty-two watering places have boon developed, devel-oped, Tho Improvements on the National forests of southern Idaho consist of 2,011 miles of trails, 1,797 miles of telephono lines, 216 miles of roads, 219 miles of fencos, 56 bridges, 12 lookout structures, 139 ranger cabins, 101 barns, 220 small buildings, 20 corrals cor-rals and 17 watering places which have been developed. on |
