Show THEATERS AT THE ORPHEUM. Music that Is pleasing and comedy that is irresistible are the features of the Pantages vaudeville program that opened at the Orpheum theatre yesterday, for the remainder of tho week. Nearly every act has a bit of comedy in it and In one at least tho audience is forced to a point of laughter laugh-ter that had not been previously reached this season. Yesterday's audiences aud-iences heartily enjoyed the program from start to finish, the only probable objection being that In a few instances in-stances some of the dialogue bordered on the "raw." Two finished vaudevlllians were seen In John Delmore and Goldie Moore, who opened tho bill with their sketch "Scenes Behind tho Scenes." The stage setting waB novel and Interesting, In-teresting, the dialogue good and tho couple completed their "turn" with a dressy mlnstreal act. They were well received. Si Jenks, a "rent" comedian, performs per-forms as No. 2. Whether he represents repre-sents a real type or not. Jenks has, In spots, an exceptionally good monologue. mono-logue. He keeps the audience laughing laugh-ing virtually every minute of tho time allotted to him and in addition to his monologue does a "hoe-down" that wins extra applause. Kitner, Hnynes and Montgomery present some sweet vocal harmonies In o nanl otnjro ciftHlntr. ThO trio COH- sists of a tenor, contralto and baritone, bari-tone, the latter adding the talont of character comedian to that of singer, sing-er, appearing as a "blackface." Tho lady member of the group has an unusually un-usually pleasing voice nnd manner, her voice being made the foundation of the ensemble work In every way this act is thoroughly pleasing and the trio responded to a number of encore en-core calls. Don Rafael, a ventriloquist, covers up vocal deficiencies with a clover stage setting and mechanical equipment equip-ment that makes his act "go." Kelly and Galvln, who follow, mako tho biggest big-gest hit of tho evening in their roles of the "Actor and the Italian." Galvln Is a singer, dancer, and a "Charlie Chaplin" rolled into ono and uses Kelly as a foil to good advantage. His take-off on tho "movlo" como-dlan como-dlan was a "scream" and the dialogue of the entire act was along tho same order. This actor could score in any 1 of his several lines, and would be a bright spot on any vaudeville circuit. : Yesterday's audiences were loathe to : let him leave the stage. A stock aerial act performed by the "Flying La Marrs" proved a lively live-ly finish to the program. The duo, man and woman, are well formed, strong and expert in their lino of work. |
