Show KINGSBURY IS IT TO LEAVE THE UNIVERSITY Salt Lake. April 8 The board of regents at a special meeting held yesterday yes-terday at the De6eret National bank declined to pass a resolution introduced intro-duced by Ernest Bamberger extending extend-ing to President J. T Kingsbury the position of president emeritus of the University of Utah at a snlar of $5000 for the ensuing year, and at the same time giving him a leave of absence ab-sence for one year. Three votes were cast in favor of this resolution and ten votes against it. President Kingsbury, who is a member of the board of regents, was not present when the vote was taken Professor D. R, Allen of the unUr slty secretary of the hoard of regents, did not mention this Important resolution reso-lution in his announcement to the press of the proceedings of the board of regents Allen s Explanation. When the matter of the omission of the Bamberger resolution from the minutes of the meeting was called to tho attention of Secretary Allen last night, he said ' I had supposed that Mr. Bamberg did not want any publicity given to the resolution and so I omitted it en 1 tlrcly. The copy for the resolution was given to me after the meetinu and I now have it In my desk at the unlversit) (Mr Allen was talking over the telephone from his residence l 1 recall that the vote on the resolution stood ten opposed and three in fa-or. fa-or. but I cannot give you the names of those who voted in favor of tlv question, as such Information is never nev-er given out, excepting upon the or dcr of the board." Mr Allen did not remember the exact ex-act wording of the text of the resolution, resolu-tion, but did give the substance ol" it upon being em --.tionod Resolution in Full The resolution which was presented to the board of regents by Mr. Bam b rer follows. "Whereas, the board of regents of the University of Utah, realizing to the fullest extent the valuable services ser-vices of President J. T. Kingsbury, during the past thirty-seven years, and particularly during the time of his incumbency of the presidency ot the universitv. since pnl 12. 1897 and "Whereas in their judgment it is fitting and proper that at this time some marked appreciation b the hoard of regents should be made ol his long and valuable service to the university; now. therefore, be it "Resolved, that he is hereby tendered ten-dered the position of president emeritus emer-itus for the year 1915-1916, his present pres-ent salary of $5000 per annum to be continued during such term, and that he be given a vacation during such term, in order that he mav find relaxation re-laxation and rest from his present onerous duties."
