Show DEMOCRATS MAY BE ! PROHIBITIONISTS Washington. April 8 Anti-saloon advocates were visibly encouraged today to-day over a statement by Secretary Bryan expressing the hope that the Democratic party would take the prohibition pro-hibition side in the next campaign In states where saloons are an issue The statement was Issued in connec tion with a letter Secretary Bryan had written to L. W. Kennlngton, national na-tional committeemen from Iowa, ad vocating defeat for candidate who could be controlled by the liquor in terests. Mr. Kennlngton had written that i he sec retarv's name was beinc used in behalf of a candidate for the na tional committee. Mr Bryan declared de-clared it seemed improbable that the liquor question would appear in the platform of either the Democratic or Republican party but that there was no reason why a Democratic national committeeman should not represent the party sentiment on the prohlbl tion question. |
