The wound was inflicted by Joe Smith, a fellow laborer. The men were working for tho Ryberg Brothers Broth-ers on the street paving contract. A disagreement arose between Smith aud Sanchos, and the latter started for Smith with a piece of iron and was knocked down with a shovel wielded by Smith. A general mixup was averted by the arrival on the scone of a number of officers. After tho fight the city commissioners commis-sioners demanded of tho contractors that the men who caused the trouble bo discharged. This demand was refused re-fused and the work was stopped, for a time at least. Mayor D-ecker had a conference with one of the Ryberg brothers and notified him that unless un-less tho paving was completed according ac-cording to the specifications seventy days, the city would demand the forfeiture for-feiture of $50 a day for each day over the specified time. The mavor and commissioners are of the opinion that the work will bo resumed when E W Ryberg, who Is now in Logan, arrives here tomorrow morning. |
