"Tho present war will not last," declared Dr. Fvllx Adler today In an address before the Society for Ethical Culture, at Central Cen-tral park west and Eighty-fourth street. "It is only a prelude to a greater one involving all civilization. "There Is something more than Germany Ger-many and the allies," he continued. "There Is heard the first muttering of the holy war Asia and Africa against Europe and America. Im- perlallBm threatens the uprising of th" fast against the west. "Some have the idfa that the east should be solf-governod and its Integrity Integ-rity and rights preserved Others have a tendency to imperialism, The time Is coming when tho United States will have to decide which side it will take, exploit the east or force imperialism upon it " Dr. Adler's entire discourse was marked by caustic utterances "The civilisation of New York may also vanish " he declared. "The universities of New York are inaccessible inac-cessible to the majority. It Is only the few that have the opportunity to attend. The children here do not have the time and many of them are put to work as soon as possible. "The United States Is developing an aristocracy It is surprising thf number of aristocrats this democracy is developing and many of them are intermarrying into the aristocracy of Europe." Dr Adler said he believed higher wages to the working classes would ' have a direct influence ln fostering peace by increasing trade which could be divided among the warring nations, na-tions, there being enough for all. |
