Show THEATERS AT THE ORPHEUM. "Peg O" My Heart" J Hartley Manners' wholesome comedy drama, ?'as greeted la6t night at the Or-pheum Or-pheum by a Capacity audience, several people In fact being required to stand throughout the performance Though the cast was not as strong as that which made the play one of the biggest big-gest successes in yearn with Lau-rctto Lau-rctto Taylor in the leading role, the play of itself proved one of the most delightful ever staged in the city As comparisons are odious, accord Ing to the proverb, no further mention men-tion will be made of Miss Taylor, as a good prototype was found in Marlon Marl-on Dentler, whose work last night as "Peg" won unqualified approval. Her Irish brogue was all that could be asked for and her portrayal of the uncultured Irish girl, as given in the line has a bit of a divil in her that just pops out," was keenly delightful delight-ful Not alone did she score in the legitimate character comedy work, but in the sentimental moments of the play which recur with frequency enough to make It thoroughly charm-lug, charm-lug, she acted the role with an artistic artis-tic ' charm that, won all hearts. In appearance too, she proved exrellent- cast, being an unusually pretty blonde of tho "strawberry" type, and she left many warm admirers in Os den, Judging from the many curtain calls she received. Roland Went as her isa-vi6 is a I olished juvenile, with a manly manner man-ner of acting that won him a share of the honors given Miss Dentler. Madeline L'Estrange, as Mrs. Chi Chester, was admirably cast her work being above criticism. Miss Helen Raftery, an unusually pretty bru nette. essayed the role of Ethel Chichester Chi-chester Her work for the most part was commendable, but she loses a big opportunity and impairs the force of an interesting scene, through a lack of emotional power. The part of Alaric Chichester was well taken by L. York Erksine. "Peg O' My Heart" contains man lines of deep philosophic value, in addition to those of sentiment and humor and will no doubt prove a! pleat-ant memory to many Ogdenites. |
