' The Montessori methods, in a small way, aro being made a part of the school system of this county, under un-der the direction of Miss Matilda Peterson, Pe-terson, who has made a study of the system of child training as taught by Maria Montessori. In order to' develop personality, the Montessori system encourages free choice of work by the children. That is, in brief, a statement of the new school. Not that a child in a Mon-tessori Mon-tessori school can do as he pleases at any time, but that within certain limits he may choose work that appeals ap-peals to him.. Miss Peterson has supplied tho chil-dren chil-dren with some of the material used to develop the natural abilities of a child and she is encouraged to go on Increasing the scope of the work. We understand that in the east tho big schools are taking up this method of training children with great success. suc-cess. The children are led by suggestion rather than commanded and their mental faculties are directed by the greatest possible use of the five senses, sen-ses, particularly touch and sight. |
