First steps in the congressional investigation investiga-tion into the Colorado and Miphlgan strikes were taken today by the house mines committee designated to make the mine Inquiry. Chairman Foster called the committeemen commit-teemen together to decide on plans. Although several members of the house had contended that no federal question was Involved which congress had any authority to investigate, n resolution for inquiry was passed by an overwhelming majority. Specifically the congressmen will investigate whether postal service has been interfered with, whether Immigration Immi-gration laws have been violated, whether whe-ther there are agreements in restraint of trade and whether peonage exists. There is a pubslbility that the-Colorado and Michigan inquiries may be carried on simultaneously by different differ-ent sub-committees.- Resolutions of investigation pending pend-ing in the senate probably will be passed over without further action, inasmuch in-asmuch as the house has voted to make the Inquiry. |
