Show I READING CIRCLE IN REVIEW OF GREEK I SCULPTURE . The Chautauqua Reading Circle met last night at the home of Mrs. A. W. Putnam, on Thirteenth 6treet. There was a good attendance of members and several visitors were prescrit. The subject under discussion was the last half of the book, "The Message of k Greek Literature," by H. H. Powers which Includes a description of the "Parthenon" at Athens, with histo rlcal data, and the lives of the fore most of the nncient Greek sculptors. The review of the lesson was divi ded into three parts, interestingly discussed by Mrs A. E Barnes anu A. P. Sorenson of Taylor, and Mfss Patterson of Ogden. Miss Patter son is an employe of the local forest service dffice. Following the talks of the three speakers, a general discussion took place and was actively participated in by the members of the Circle. At the next meeting, the Chautauqua Chautau-qua Circle will have a discussion of the book "Rambles in Greece,' by Mahaffey and at a future meeting an illustration lecture on Greece will be ghen by Prof Byron Cummings of the University of Utah In speaking of the work of the Circle, President Georgiana Marriott said that its object was to interest the people in subjects that would teud to advance them along UneB of edu cation and culture and that anyone who was interested would be welcomed wel-comed at all meetings. |
