Show action is begun by united; states Government to Fight German Petroleum Monopoly Bill Now Before Parliament. Berlin, March 28 Formal action was begun today by the United States government against the petroleum monopoly bill recently introduced in the German Imperial parliament. The first step taken-was a written memorandum presented by James W. Gerard, United States -ambassador to Gottlieb Von Jagow, the German foreign for-eign minister. This memorandum expresses ex-presses the confident expectation of the united States government, that certain Injustices toward American Investors contained in the monopoly bill in its present form will disappear disap-pear before enactment. The United States, it pointed out, has no wish oither tp intervene against Germany's establishment of an oil monopoly nor to interfere with any price arrangement between the Standard Oil company and the German Ger-man government, should such bo under un-der consideration. It expects, however, how-ever, that American citizens who have invested, capital in German enterprises en-terprises for instance the Standard Oil company's German subsidiary concern con-cern will be fully and fairly compensated com-pensated for all investments cancelled by the measure. |
