Show oo GAMBLING CASE IT HEARD II CITY COURT J. E. Johnson forfeited $50 bail in the municipal court this morning, fail ing to appear in anBwer to a charge of conducting a gambling game. He was arrested by Sergeant Mohlman yesterday oiornlng. James Dunford forfeited ?5 ball on a charge of drunkenness. He was arrested yesterday afternoon at 2526 Lincoln avenue by Patrolman Blackburn. Black-burn. Walter Rccri was sentenced to serve 5 days in jail on a charge of drunkenness. drunk-enness. Reed was arrested by Debk Sergeant Hagbart Anderson, Thursday morning, following a series of circumstances, circum-stances, hich Included the stopping of a Bamberger electric car and a near runaway. In which ,the safety of a number of children was involved. Reed said lhat the present case was the .first time he had been drunk in four months and that he was preparing prepar-ing to go to Idaho. He said that he had jumped from his wagon, leaving leav-ing the horses loose and had saved one of- the children from death or serious injury by getting it from in front of the train, which stopped after af-ter it had passed over the place where he and the child had been a few seconds sec-onds before. V. Paine corroborated corrobora-ted the statement of the defendant, saying" that his wife and other nearby near-by residents had seen the rescue. He said further that Reed was drunk and that he wanted to fight the motorman of the car. Reed has given his wife and the police po-lice a lot of trouble during the past year, but the judge took Into consideration consid-eration the fact that he had kept sober so-ber for three or four months past and also . the circumstances by which tho tenm had been left untied and gave l.m a small sentence. |
