| Show was living life of an animal was half clothed and jells disconnected story from tuesdays standard it is seldom that even the police have to deal with an affair such as was unearthed last night and which resulted in the arrest of a young girl who gave her name as grace witch arlly and three boys early last evening the police were informed that a young girl was living in the brush along the weber river above thirty first street and that she was being kept there by men working on the sand ridge cutoff cut off captain brown and detective pender went out in the patrol wagon to investigate the case and found the facts to be even more shocking than were reported after about two hours beating through the brush the officers discovered the girls camp and placed the boys and girl under arrest it was a pathetic quartette who were ushered into the police station and the most pathetic figure was the young girl who for four days has led the life of a wild animal sleeping at night under the stars and in the day time following only the instincts of her baser nature in every way her condition was most deplorable her unkempt hair matted and disheveled hung loose about her shoulders while her body was clothed in but an old black skirt and one of the boys jackets which had been loaned her in spite of her position the girl waa defiant but it was evident that in speaking of her relations with the men she was telling the truth it her story can be substantiates it will mean the bringing of a disgraceful charge against the boys under arrest all of whom are residents of ogden according to the story which the girl told the police and a reporter she came to ogden from salt lake on thursday of last week friday she met a man near the circus grounds and after seeing the show accompanied him to the brush alongside the river where she has remained since that time the next day after going to the river the girl said that the man whose name she did not know deserted her at the same time making off with a part 0 her clothing it was after tho disappearance of the man that men from the sand ludge cut oft found her provided hen with blankets and brought her food since friday sha has been living there in the blushi the companion of wayward boys and dissolute men until at first gladce she scarcely resembles a human being while she was beang booked the reporter talked and learned a portion of her story she claimed that she Is from salt lake and that her mother Is a mrs brown but that she did not know here her mother lived as she had been kicked out two years ago in answer to fhe question as to where she had lived since being kicked out she aid not give satisfactory answers laying that she had worked in the valley house in salt lake captain brown does not believe that the girl has told the whole truth regarding her antecedents and she and the boys will be held as long as possible before a charge Is brought against them in that more may be learned of the girl and of the case |
