Show PLANNING TO PATCH THE STREETS The question of patching Twenty-fourth Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth streets was given consideration by the city commissioners com-missioners on the report of Commissioner Commis-sioner J. C. Nye, recommending that tho patching be done at the time tho paving of Grant avenue, between Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth streets, and the paving of Fowler avenue, ave-nue, between Tweutj -fifth and Twenty-sixth street and between Jackson aud Qulncy avenues, is done The ropalr work coultf bo made at less expense then, the commissioner said. Mr. Nye stated that jurisdiction had been gained in the matter of paving the two avenues and he thought the engineering department should soon advertise for bids for tho work. Action Ac-tion on tho matter was deferred to a future date. Judge A. G. Horn complained that tho sjdewalk paving on tho south side of Twentieth street, betweon Washington Wash-ington and Adams avenues, had been placed at a grade so low that much damage has been done to property Interests there and- that, if tho city did not remedy It', there likely would be a number of damage suits against the municipality. He suggested that the city would do well to raise tho walk a foot or more and also place it on a line with the sidewalk pavement pave-ment on the west side of Washington avenue and that the cost would not be moro than about $500. This, he said, would satisfy the property owners, own-ers, including the city board of education, edu-cation, and that it would avoid litigation. litiga-tion. The question was referred to tho commissioners as a committee of the whole for further consideration. Sanitary Inspector George Shorten complains that his salary is not largo enough to fit tho Job. Mayor Fell opposed the extension of water mains on Maple avenue 'n tho western part of the city and he was sustained by the other members of the board. Property owners had petitioned for the extension. The question of a water rate to tho Tabernacle square committee for parking purposes was talked over by the commissioners and finally set aside for future consideration. Mayor May-or Fell rocommonded that the church peoplo be given the lowest possible rate provided for In the pity schedule, sched-ule, the quantity of water used to be considered. A definite conclusion was not arrived at and the matter was hold over. In the discussion of the paving of Grant and Fowler avenues, tho commissioners com-missioners virtually decided that the stone blocks at the intersections of Washington avenue and Twenty-third, Twonty-fourth and Twenty-firth streets should bo removed and replaced re-placed with asphalt pacment. Plats of the Farr addition to tho city wore submitted by the city engineer en-gineer with his objections to them and the department was Instructed to return tho plats to John Farr for correction. cor-rection. Tho roport from the street department depart-ment showed that the coBt of work on the streets last month was $2,-390.30. $2,-390.30.
