Show 00 Leader of House Says Candidacy Is Not in, Harmon Interest Washington, May 7. Oscar W. Underwood Un-derwood of Alabama, majority leader of the house, today declared that his presidential candidacy was not ln the Interest of Governor Harmon or any candidate other than himself This was in reply to a statement of William Wil-liam J. Bryan, in a speech at Chilil-cothe, Chilil-cothe, O., last night, that he had heard that the Underwood delegates chosen In Georgia and Florida were in reality Harmon men. "It Is Impossible fo'r a man in public pub-lic life " said Mr Underwood, "to keep up with all of the misrepresentations misrepresen-tations made about him, but I wish to say that there Is no warrant In fact for the statement made by Mr. Bryan. I am making the race for the presidential nomination with the honest hon-est endeavor to secure it for myseli and my candidacy Is not, nor never has been, in the Interest of Judge Harmon or any other candidate. "Georgia, Florida and Alabama declared de-clared for mo in a presidential primary pri-mary election .and this was the expression ex-pression of the desire of thousands of honest voles at the pollB for me and none for any other man." |
