Murphy this morning without n sentoncc.- In appearance, Foster made the ordinary or-dinary tramp look like a clothing store model He seemed to be a perfect per-fect stranger to soap and his hair knew no parting When the man took the stand, however, ho again proved the old adage that clothes do not make the man Foster told a clear and doflnite story of how he came to be In his present condition of adversity adver-sity He said that he was a baker by trade and that he had been nmnln-a nmnln-a small bakery in Colorado, but that ho had been driven to the wall When asked what he did with the money he had after leaving the bakery bak-ery business, Fostor explained that he was $150 In debt when he quit tho business He produced letters showing that ho had been shipped west with a gang of laborers by an employment agency and that he had worked just one day on the Oregon Short I Ine, three miles south of this city, when he was placed under arrest Foster said that he had walked from the railroad camp to Ogden to mail r. postal card when he was arrested by the deputy sheriff The man has been locked in the county jail for several sev-eral days, awaiting trial. |
