Show (DETECTIVES RiflE THE STREET CARS As a result of a "tip" which reached the police through unofficial circles last evonlng, there was reason to believe be-lieve that plans had , been made to holdup street cars on twarof the local lines, and for several' hours plain clothes men rode on alj North 'Wash lngton and Twenty-second street cars. No attempt was made to hold up the conductors, but the guard was maintained main-tained until the cars quit running at 1 o'clock this morning. Tho police refused to reveal the source of the information. It was stated that a conversation between two men led the third party to believe that they were planning a hold up of the cars on the lines mentioned, It being the supposition that after a day of heavy business like that of yesterday yester-day the conductors would be In possession pos-session of considerable money. This "tip" was evidently considered of sufficient Importance to domnnd police action, for a detective accompanied accom-panied each car to the ond of the two lines .during tho remainder of the night. |
