Barlow, chief of police. The first tlmo, about threo weeks ago, tho chief and tho crook shook hands and said gcfdbye to each other Yesterday Yester-day they again shook hands and the hand of'the law still clings to that of the prook. Tho man says his name is Bud Picacher, but a number of pamphlets concerning those of the underworld, which havo been received at the police po-lice station, say thnt among the many aliasesunderwhieh he had traveled are tho names ''Louis Bradshaw" and "J W. Morgan." Ho is known to tho police po-lice as ono of the cleverest confidence men in Uo country. Chief Barlow was at the Oregon Short Line railroad station early ono morning about three weeks ago when tho "Preacher" was pointed out to hlin as a professional confidence map.
