Tho Weber county sheriff Is tho H only Utah officer In Michigan, but It K; Is thought that special officers of the BT detective fore that have been work- m? ing on tho -caso, -will assist In bring- K lng the mon to thfe suite, as the men K uro looked upon us dangerous. Wt O'Hara and Cloro are charged with m murder and highway robbory and thoy 1" -will be tried In tho second district at Ogden, It Is anticipated that they l -will foe hold in the Weber county jail until they are tried, It being 6tated by some of the officers, however, they thoy may bo taken to tho state peni tentiary for safo keeping Immediately after they have been given a preliminary prelim-inary hearing. It will be icmembered that the crimes for which they are to bo tried were committed at Reese, a small siding sid-ing on tho Southern Pacific railway, a few milch west of Ogden, on January 2 of this vear. A colored porter was killed, another seerely wounded and the passengers of the train robbed of something like $2,000 In cash and oth-or oth-or valuables Another piece oof evidence which may aid In the conviction of Clore and O'Hara, has Just become public About twelve days after the train robbery a man entered tho Browning Brothers' store carrying a fTIle Ho talked with one ol the clerks, offering the gun for sale. The clerk told the man that he did not care to purchase the weapon but that the proprietors' of the store might buy It. The man went to the office of tho Brownings and the gun was purchased. The clerk remembered the Incident and sometime later reported it to the sheriff. Hf described the visitor as a man about 3S ynrs old. about 5 feet 10 inches In" height and weighing about ISO pounds. This description corresponds corre-sponds with that of Clore Before the sheriff left for the east ho brought a photograph to tho Browning Btore which the clerk identified as that of the stranger with tho rifle. Tho pic ture was a likeness of Clore. Yesterday one of the crew of tho robbed train called at the Browning place and was shown an exact duplicate dupli-cate of the purchased gun. The trainman train-man stated that it was tho same kind of riflo used by one of the bandits. While this story conflicts somewhat with the story that the two holdup men went almost direct from the scene of the robbery to Salt Lake City, It is thought likely that when all the details of the men's movements after the holdup arc known. It will be found that the men remained In Ogdfo for a considerable length of time after January 2 |
