Rangers in the national forests will be supplied with portable telephone sets and with a special flexible wire which can be easily and quickly run along the ground to isolated placed In the fjr-ests. fjr-ests. The telephones will be of uEc In summoning help to prevent a repetition repe-tition of the disastrous conflagration in tho northwest last August. The adoption of these telephones is the result of experiments conducted since last summer with sets similar to those used by the Blgnal corps. Prevention of Jargc fires has been furthered since last year, through lengthening trails and extending permanent per-manent telephone lines. When the fire season arrives, an extra force of rangers will penetrate Ihe isolated parts of the forests, laying their telephone tele-phone lines along the. ground as thoy go. Metal boxes containing flre-fight-Ing Implements, together with a supply sup-ply of food have also been distributed along the many trails where they will bo easy of access. |
