O'Biien of the Postal Telegraph company received the following fol-lowing from tho Now York office yes-torday yes-torday afternoon: Tho nnnual report of the Mackay companies was ibsued this afternoon. ( It stated that new transcontinental lines have been completed by construction construc-tion from Reno, Nevndu, to Salt Lako City, Utah, and by construction from Seattle to Spokane, Washington. These, lines enable the Postal Tolo-graph Tolo-graph company to give the best of service between the Pacific coast nnd the oast. Tho heavy copper wires on theso lines were transposed when erected so that they aro now used for telegraphing and telephoning simultaneously. sim-ultaneously. In the Ocean systom a new additional submarine cable has been laid from Waltervlllo, Ireland, to Weston, England, with underground connection to London. Tho eastern ends of two of tho commercial cable company's cables from America to Europe huo been replaced by new cables ca-bles to withstnnd the actlou of the fishing trawlers off the Irish coast, and a long section of the cable from Watervlllo to Havre, France, has also boon renewed. Tho replaced cables ln both cases hae been in uso ovor u quartor of a century. On the land line system the night letter has been in use for oleven months. Much of the day business has passed into nigh't letters. Notably one-half of that to and from the entire Pacific coast. The advantage to tho telegraph companies Is doubtful, to say tho least.
