Show MERGING OF TELEPHONE SYSTEMS Three eastern engineers of the American Am-erican Tolophone &. Telegraph company, com-pany, commonly known as the Bcli company, have been In this city for tho past few days looking over the ground preparatory to tho consolidation consolida-tion of the two telephone systems. About threo wcekB the Bell company com-pany purchased the property of the Utah Independent company and within with-in the next six months the two systems sys-tems In Ogden will bo merged Into one Speaking of the consolidation, Manager W. F. Madson of the Bell Company .stated this afternoon that the ork of merging tho two systems will be started as soon as possible, but, because of the difference in equipment, equip-ment, it will doubtless require at least six months to complete the task of centralizing all the wires. When the work of consolidation Is completed,' only one office and exchange ex-change will be used. Which of the two offices now In use will bo closed, Mr. Mndson could not say. The fact that the Independent company's office Is located on Twenty-fourth street In the lino of extension of Hudson avenue ave-nue north will probably deter tho Bell company from choosing tho building as a permanent exchange. Tho engineers left Ogden without giving out any definite information as to how long It would tako for the merging of the two systems, but are expected to return within a short time to make further Investigation. on |
