Frank Harold H Henwood was subjected to a drilling H cross-examination by District Attorney H Elliott today when Henwood resumed H the stand to defend himself of tho H charge of murdering S. L. Von Phul H a month ago in the Brown Palace H hotel bar. H Tho prosecuting attorney dwelt on H the statements of Henwood on pro- H vious days, that his trouble with Von IH Phul was the outgrowth of efforts of H Henwood to protect the home of John H W. Springer from the threats of Von IH Phul, who, Henwood stated, had an- H nounccd his Intentions of sending to ll Mr. Springer certain letters written B by Mrs. Springer to Yon Phul. H Prosecutor Elliott took the witness H back to May 17, a week before tho B shooting, to a visit of Henwood to HHJ tho Springer ranch.
