Show Many Parties Honor Willard Thornley The Srnithfield Third ward Elders Quorum and the Sunday School Missionary class honored Willard D. Thornley, quorum president pres-ident and class member at a program pro-gram Sunday morning prior to his departure for service in the U S. Navy. The committee in charge of general arrangements was Don Chambers, James Raymond, Ray-mond, and T. Leonard Sorenson. The following program arranged by the program committee Lois Chambers and Gladys Hansen was carried out: speech of welcome, wel-come, T. Leonard Sorenson; vocal vo-cal solo, Gem McCann; Patriotic reading, Roberta Nilson; piano solo, Kathryn Roskelley; story Beatrice Thornley; tenor solo' Richard Allred. Remarks and expressions of appreciation for Mr. Thornley's service in the organizations were made by Bishop's Counselor Golden Gol-den Sorenson, Class Leadere Don Chambers, Sunday School Supere-intendent Supere-intendent W. W. Perkins, and Class members Richard Allred, T. Leonard Sorenson, Weldon Koe-ford, Koe-ford, and Ruby Thornley refreshment refresh-ment committee chairman. A beautiful ring was presented to Mr. Thornley as an expression of the love and esteem in which the class and quorum held him. Don Chambers made the presentation presenta-tion speech and a response was made by Mr. Thornley. The ring, a brilliant ruby, was set in silver. The setting for the stone was made by hand by Weldon Koeford, secretary of the quorum and talented artisan. This program completed a series ser-ies of entertainments in honor of Willard Thornley, who left Smithfield Sunday for service in the U. S. Navy. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Crockett, Mr. and Mrs. Harlo Peterson, Miss Jeanne Crockett, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Peterson of Logan, entertained en-tertained at a canyon dinner at the Crockett summer home in Logan canyon, on Friday, in honor of Willard D. Thornley prior to his leaving Cache county coun-ty for service in the U. S. Navy. Covers were laid for eighteen guests and the guest of honor-Canyon honor-Canyon summer flowers decorated the tables and the dining room. A beautiful gift was presented to Mr. Thornley by the hosts. The evening was spent in social chat and the enjoyment of the canyon beauty. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Thornley entertained at a family dinner Sunday in honor of their brother Willard, who left Srnithfield Sunday Sun-day evening for service in the U. S. Army. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson R. Thornley Thorn-ley were the guests of Mrs. Emma Thornley Saturday evening at a family dinner in honor of another son, Willard, who left this week for service with the U. S. Navy. Willard Thornley was the dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Wassermann of Logan, Saturday, prior to his departure for the Navy service. Miss Thelma Fogelberg entertained enter-tained at a luncheon honoring Willard D. Thornley, who left last week for U. S. Navy service. |
