Show Little Competition i For County Posts ; In 1940 Primary j Utah's 1940 primary election, to be held Tuesday, September 3, will offer plenty of competition for most state and congressional : offices, it seems, but only a small ; amount for county offices. At least this will be the case by comparison compari-son with the election of two years ago the first under the direct primary system, which supplants the old method of nominating can-didates can-didates in state and county con- j ventions. County officers to be elected t in November this year include a representative to the state legis- j lature, a long- and a short-term , commissioner and a county attor-ney, attor-ney, but there is party competi-! tion only for the short-term com-missionership com-missionership (in both parties) and in the Republican race for county attorney. Thus, only these county offices will be voted on in Beaver county, though the galaxy of would-lbe state nominees, on both tickets, should help to bring out a good vote. Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock was the deadline for filing for office, of-fice, and telephonic contact with County Clerk William A. iMiller gave The News the following list of county filings: ! For State Representative Clif : McShane of Beaver, Republican J (incumbent); Samuel O. White of Beaver, Democrat. i Four-Year Commisioner Ernest Er-nest G. Joseph, Beaver, Republican Republi-can (incumbent); Mark Woolsey, Beaver, Democrat. Two-Year Conymissioner Dan Rollins and Lester Roberts, both of Minerville, Republicans; J. S. The offices of district judge and attorney come, up this year but nothing definite is available on these filings, which had to be made with the secretary of state, he to certify them back to the various county clerks, along with state offices. But it is presumed that Judge William Hoyt of Nephi and District Attorney Ellis Pickett Pick-ett of St. George, both Democrats, have filed for re-nomination. Or the Republican side, it is understood under-stood that Durham Morris of i Parowan has filed for judge, and 1 Udell R. Jensen of Nephi for dis-1 dis-1 trict attorney.
