ORGANIZATION DECIDE TO BUILD NEW CHAPE IN MILFORD; $2,000.00 RAISED IN MEETING One of tho most spirited and enthusiastic en-thusiastic meeting ever held in Mil-I'm'd Mil-I'm'd was at the L. D. S. church Sunday Sun-day evening, March 20. The house was crowded to overflowing. Raymond Taylor was chairman of the meeting. The subjects, "The What of It," "The Why of It," and tho "Ilow of It" of the unknown quantity delivered by Elders Hughes, Nelson and Parrish were fine. This unknown quantity was Milford's new L. D. S. chapel. The slogan, "We Want a New Chapel within Six Months or Bust," was given by six little tots. Chairman Taylor then turned tlw meeting into a business meeting with this question: "Do the members of the Milford Ward want a new Chapel?" Chap-el?" This was put to a vote and carried car-ried unanimous. Letters were read from many prominent citizens residing resid-ing in Milford not of L. D. S. faith supporting the committees in their efforts to erect a new chapel in the community. The committees were then placed before the assembly for their approval, which carried unanimously. unani-mously. Chas. R. Parrish, general chairman of the building program to work in conjunction with the bishopric. . Ru-dolph Ru-dolph Nielsen, chairman of finance committee with Chas. Beard as secretary sec-retary and J. C. Smith as treasurer, with the following committeemen: Raymond Taylor, J. M. Hughes, Lloyd Kohler, Roy F. Miller, Wm. S. Bond, Parley Fisher, Chas. R. Parrish, Par-rish, Mrs. Rosetta Hedges, Mrs. Har- vey Dean, Mrs. Anthon Johnson and Mrs. Joseph Grow. J. M. Hughe3 chairman building and site committee with Chas. R. Parrish, P. J. Fillmore. Frank Farmer and Joy M. Christen-sen Christen-sen as committeemen. A plan to raise $5000 cash and $5000 labor to be raised by the ward, and an equal amount of $10,000 to be given by the church headquarters was voted on and carried. An assessment assess-ment of $50 cash or $50 labor was levied against each adult wage earning earn-ing member in the ward. This vote carried. Fifteen minutes of the meeting was turned over to the congregation for response on the subject. Many stood up and spoke of being in favor of a new chapel and pledged their support and many stepped to the front signing sign-ing cash notes, labor pledges, and donated money. These amounted to $2,000 before the meeting came to a close. The committee in charge of the building program, the bishopric, and members of the finance committee are encouraged by the splendid support sup-port and interest taken by the members mem-bers and citizens of Milford in this much needed enterprise. Plans are now under way where each member in the ward will be visited so that the amount needed can be quickly' raised and work on the new chapel commence com-mence at once. Remember the slogan, slo-gan, "We Want a New Chapel Within Six Months or Bust." J. C. Smith will handle all funds, notes, etc. |
