Show DISPUTE OVER ROAD SURVEY NEAR ROCKY FORD DAM SETTLED Work was resumed this week on grading of the Beaver-Milford highway high-way after having been shut down for a week until a satisfactory determination determin-ation of the survey had been reached. The work which was started last fall was abandoned until spring owing ow-ing to the freezing of the ground. Recently James Robinson with a crew of local men commenced work on the mile and a half stretch south of the Rocky Ford dam. However, a question ques-tion of right-of-way was encountered and the work again closed down last week. The original survey crossed a small section of land belonging to Joe Jackson, Jack-son, who was not satisfied with the price set upon the land. A board of arbitration was appointed, but their recommendations failed to meet the approval of the state road commission. commis-sion. Another snag was encountered when it was learned that the proposed propos-ed road would cover a pipe-line from a spring- owned by the town of Min-ersville, Min-ersville, the said town objecting to having their line covered unless the county and state agreed to install a permanent pipe-line beneath the road's surface. After much argument the state road commission and county decided to abandon the proposed grade which ran near the river, and make a cut through the hill, which will eliminate a curve, but which was thought by the engineers locating the first grade, as a more expensive course. However, according to Mr. Robinson, he is confident con-fident that the cut can be made as cheaply as the fill could be made on the lower road survey. Now that the difficulties have been removed work will be pushed on the portion of the new road to be built, which will do away with several bad curves on this mile and a half of highway. |
