Show 34 MEN GIVEN WORK WITH UP RAILWAY Summer jobs were given to thirty-four thirty-four Milford men last Sunday and Monday by the Union Pacific Railroad Rail-road Company. It became known Saturday night that the railroad would add sixty-seven men to its regular re-gular section force and that practically practic-ally all of the unemployed in Mil-ford Mil-ford who were willing to work would have an opportunity of finding employment em-ployment for several months with the railroad. The response was immediate. In a few hours, thirty-four as many as Road Master, Ray Beck, and his assistant, as-sistant, Spence Schow, were authorized author-ized to hire here, had signed up for fc work on the various section5! be tween Black Rock and Caliente. There was a rush to procure bed rolls and to pack up working clothes and then the thirty-four Milford men t were shipped out for their new jobs. Tne caN tor section labor issued by the company is not unusual, according ac-cording to Spence Schow who signed up the workmen, as the Union Pacilic increases its section force every spring when the winter snows are over and conditions are favorable for improving the track. However, this year, more men than usual were hired and American labor was given the preferance. Also married men were favored over the single in the hiring of .the new hands. Though there is no definite information infor-mation from head quarters as to how long the new men will be kept on, it is generally believed tha". the jobs will last through the summer. |
