Show Anent Bryan Do not blame the mule because it is not a horse. The trouble is with the progenitors, and not all the education of the ages has been able to eliminate the long ears of the paternal ancestor. Rather reminds us of the old fable of the ass in the lion's skin. It used to puzzle us that the ass was able to escape detection for . so long as he did, but in the light of later years, we have come to t ie conclusion that there are many more asses masquerading in lions' skins, than there are real lions, and they manage to get by with it so long as they keep their mouths shut, and their ears covered. With the temptation tj hear their own voices too strong to be resisted, comes the inevitable discovery and banishment banish-ment to the outer darkness. Shakespeare tells us that "Some are born great, and some have greatness thrust upon them", but you "take it from muh",that if one is great at all, he is born great. The greatness may lie dormant, but is there. Bryan was not born great. Deplorable as it is, and thoroughly thor-oughly as it has been demonstrated demon-strated time and again, it is nol his fault, it is his misfortune. D j not blame the mule. |
