Show Writes from Okinawa . . . Dear Dad, Well, I am still doing okay. Nothing exciting has happened to me for quite some time now, but I am not anxious to get in any right away, either. Boy, I surr could use a razor & a toothbrush. I lost them both plus a lot of pictures and addresses. I lost Bill's and Frank's both. This Okinawa Island is quite a place. The .weather here is a lot like home and the people, though quite primitive in method, are basically ba-sically farmers. The farms consist of rice paddies in the low lands and they grow lettuce, cabbage, carrots, and onions in the high lands. It is quite beautiful. All these small gardens are on terraced terrac-ed patches that seem to be hanging hang-ing right on the hillside. The civilian houses are thin wood structures with sliding panels for walls and doors. The tops are either of a thatched grass and bamboo or a typically Japanese style of tile. It's all quite interesting. inter-esting. There isn't much more of interest to write about except that mortar barrage I got caughtin last week. That was an experience that I shall never forget. Why don't you make up a nice parcel of personal gear and send to me. I don't have a thing but clothes. I could use a razor, shaving shav-ing cream, toothbrush, and paste, stamps, stationery and pen, some jerked venison, a wallet with about $5.00 in it, a pocket comb and a mirror. I guess that about covers it. I really need them. Well. Dad, I will try and write again tomorrow, all my love, Your son, Neil. Cpl. Neil S. Bishop.
