Show Walker Returns from Tour Of Duty in Pacific ''eEnsign Walter R. Walker, USNR, 2lta, has returned from a tour of "jMibat duty in the Pacific, where he served as pilot of an avenger torpedo bomber in Composite Sqd. 21, which was based on one of tiie Navy's hard hitting little escort carriers. During this, his first tour of combat com-bat duty. Ensign Walker piled up an impressive toll of destruction and damage to Japanese shore installations in-stallations and shipping. He flew 50 combat missions during which he scored a torpedo hit on an enemy ene-my carrier and made runs on other enemy warships. While attacking shore installations he strafed and bombed barracks, troop concentrations, concentra-tions, tanks, trucks, airfields, aircraft, air-craft, ammunition and fuel dumps and docks. In his attack on the Jap Imperial Fleet during the bitterly fought Second Battle of the Philippines his plane was hit but he continued to make his run and was able to fly the badly damaged plane safely back to his carrier. With "21" Ensign En-sign Walker saw action in Peleliu. Angaur, Mintioro. Leyte. and Luzon, Lu-zon, as well as in the historic battle bat-tle with the Jap fleet. The son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Walker, of Delta, the 21-year old flier received his training at the Naval Air Stations in Corpus Ch ri-Ji i. Texas, and Ft. Lauderdale. Florida. He was commissioned in Marh. 19-11.
