Show Sends Souvenirs From Pacific Thomas Keith, PhM 3c sent to. M-S L. F. Gorden a trunk full of Japanese souvenirs. Among the lot was a thick text book of short sentences in English with a translation trans-lation of the equivalent in Japanese, Japan-ese, and what may be exercises in Japanese reading followed. Tucked away in its pages were a number of sealed letters, evidently not mailed when the loot was captured. captur-ed. An ash tray, coins, a dog tag (identification number), and many other articles. Lt. James Knight, who is home on leave from the Marine Corps, is spending a few days in Salt Lake Citv this week. He will return by way of Spanish Fork so that he may attend the livestock show in that city. Gordon V. Barney, PhM ljc. who has been stationed at the Gilbert Islands for the past 18 months, has been transferred to the Mar-, shall Islands. He is operating room technician and in his spare time does some barbering. Every atoll he moved to he had to make a new barber chair, but he says that I helps to keep him busy. Ned Satake is home on furlough from Camp Blanding, Florida. He is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Satake. CAMP WOLTERS, Texas- Pvt. Stewart K. Carter, 18. son of M-S Byron Carter has arrived at this Infantry Replacement Training Center ' to begin his basic training train-ing as an Infantryman. He has been assigned to a battalion stressing stres-sing rifle. Anthony Callister has been promoted pro-moted to a Staff Sergeant with Patton's Third Army. He is with the communications service. Pfc. Le Vee Peterson landed in ) San Francisco Monday. He has been in the Philippines and just came from the East Indies where he has been in the hospital for some time. They say it is a small world - -and it is indeed. The boys do meet occasionally and in most distant places. Cpl Dern Williams and Sgt 'iene Dutson met in Hawaii. They were very glad to see each other and were stationed only two plocks apart. They have been very good friends all their lives. Dern is the son of M-S Charlie Williams. Lt. Ralph Ashby called in on his way from Big Springs, Texas to say hello to his boyhood chum, A S Lorin Dene Dutson. Pvt. Tomo Inabu. who lived in ' Delta when J. C. Seivert was the U. P. agent, is now serving in Italy in the armed forces. He writes under und-er date of April 26 that he has been wounded and has received the Purple Heart. He is with the 442nd Infantry, |
