This remarkable remark-able formation has usually been do-scribed do-scribed ns a "pit crater" of volcanic origin. Hut Professor William P. Illake believes It to bo the result of the falling of tho roof of n cavern formed In tho limestone strata by running water. Tho water of tho pool, ho says, flowj out through a subterranean subter-ranean channel Into the valley of Heaver creek.
