Show MORMON GIRLS "G00DY-G00DYM Not Out For A Good Time With Chappie Boys. F.Lawrence Walker Talks of Corianton Days. F. Lawrence Walker, advance man forChas. H. Ilanford since 1891', was In Logan Thursday Mr Walker Is one of those genial, whole-souled fellows fel-lows oncalwajs likes to meet, and he ever has something Interesting to talk about. Speaking of coming to Logan the Urst time, Mr. Walker said "Corianton" "Corian-ton" was responsible for that. He was In San Francisco at the tlmo "Corianton" was holding the boards there and accidentally came Into contact con-tact with G. W. Thatcher, musical director. He formed a liking for Mr. Thatcher and "Corianton," as well, and while there agreed with Mr. Thatcher that ho would book Han-ford Han-ford for Logan the coming season, The success of the first engagement was so thoroughly satisfactory that Mr. Walker Wal-ker has continued to keep Loan on his list. Why "Corianton" Failed. In Mr. Walker's opinion, "Corianton" "Corian-ton" deserved to succeed, but the odds wcic against it. Imhaus, whose wife once essayed the leading feminine role, acted as advance man, and to him a great portion of the failure Is to be attributed. He evidently knew Utile of bookings and thiough making terrific ter-rific Jumps and p'ajing in second-class second-class houses he put the production on the bum. Then, too, the public had the Idea that "Corianton" taken from the Hook of Mormon and written by a Mormon, was nothing more than an advertisement for Mormondom backed by wealthy Latter-day Saints. This queered the show with a great many. The lack of professional management, and the expenditure of considerable sums of money to the least advantage soon put the show out of business. "Hut it is a good show" sajs Mr. Walker. "The situations aie wonderful wonder-ful In their possibilities, and as a show to look at "Corianton" was a beauty. That climax In which Korlhor defies de-fies the Gods and Is struck by lightning light-ning Is wondrously allectlve, and Mr. Thatcher's chorus and dancers were superfine. When tho company had Haworth with It, they had one of the greatest actors on the stage, one equal to his part, but he was an errac-tic errac-tic individual. I believe that if the rlgt peoplo got hold of "Corianton" they could make It go. A Real Compliment. "While we were standing In a San Francisco hotel one evening, 1 heard a remark that was really highly complimentary compli-mentary to Mormon girls" said Mr. Walker. "The girls with tho show were all exceptionally bright, intelligent intel-ligent and particularly good looking, you know, and their fresh countenances, counten-ances, sweet voices aud nlmbleness on tho stage quite won the hearts of all tho 'chappies' as well as the entire public. At tho hotel I referred to, a couple of tho 'chappies' were much in evidence. As tho girls came In from tho show the boys got enthusiastic and finally one said: 'Chappie old boy, here's our opportunity; we'll just hang around here and make a date with some of theso girls' 'You will, will yon' retorted the other. 'Well I guess not, you couldn't get Inside of ten feet of that bunch they'ro a bunch of goody.goody Mormon girls.' 'That mado me think a great deal of tho girls' said Mr. Walker. Likes Zion and Logan. "Hut I like Ion, anyway, for trul, in all ray travels, I have never met a kindlier people. In my few stop3 In this state I have como to know more Mist-class people than In seveial years' travel In other states. I have met nice people, they have entertained me, ' and gone to no little trouble to make my short stays pleasant. Yes, I llko your town, not alone because vo have done a good business here, but because it Is mi exceptionally pretty place. Your valley Is hardly surpassed on the globe. "Yes, we'vo donoa remarkable business busi-ness this season. At ten different places In the two weeks the scat sales for Mr. Hanford's engagement broke all previous records. Tho show this season Is the best Mr. Ilanford has ever put on the road, and the production produc-tion Is as llnlshed as It Is posslblo for money to make It." |
