Allrcd and Hrlgham Pond, of Lewlston, were In Logan Thursday as a committee sent to confer with County Attorney Law about organizing organiz-ing a District Draining Co. The excessive ex-cessive snows and rains during the past season have soaked the soil In the vicinity of Lewlston so thoroughly that the water is running out of the ground at this time. The soil Is saturated sat-urated until It is useless and unless the land Is drained It will be Impossible Impossi-ble to put in crops this year. The Toads are also in such a condition that a horse can hardly wallow through, and tho wholo country, In I fact, is 'in a deplorable condition. Last year the conditions were extremely extreme-ly bad, but this year they are much worse. The citizens of tho Wheeler district are thoroughly aroused and at a meeting meet-ing held on Wednesday decided to take steps calculated to remedy thcdllllcul-ty, thcdllllcul-ty, hence tho visit of Messrs. Allrcd and Pond. According to Mr. Allied tho plan is to dig a trench down the county road to near river. A good fall can be secured secur-ed with a little digging an the total expense of draining will not bo very hea,vy. It Is but two miles from the jiolnt of drainage to Hear Ulver. Drainage companies organized before have been but partial successes, but It -. is expected that an organization In 1 W) which the county Is iutciested will necessarily work out satisfactorily. |
