Show Lincoln Debate Festival slated for high schools student body officers from the college and Cedar City's mayor, Kerrv Jones. "Members of the community are welcome to attend the tournament and observe the various skills of the students as they compete in the most exciting field of combat there is - the human mind." said Prof. Van Dyke. Schools attending the event include: American Fork, Provo, Orem. Springville, .Cedar City, Hurricane, Richfield, Ogden, Juab, Viewmont, Lehi, Spanish Fork, Pleasant Grove, Western High School in Las Vegas, Nevada and Basic High School in Henderson, Nev. Prot. Van Dyke said activities for the two day meet will begin Friday at 9:30 a.m. with a general meeting in the SUSC auditorium. The annual Abe Lincoln Debate Festival will be hosted Feb. 15 and 16 at Southern Utah State College by the Southern Utah Forensic Association and the college. This festival offers training in citizenship and reasoning skills to more than 500 high school students and instructors through participation in debate, legislative forum, oration, extemporaneous ex-temporaneous speaking, and impromptu speaking. Awards are made in each event and special awards are presented to outstanding teachers and contributors in speech activity. Professor Stephen Van Dyke, debate coach at SUSC, says that Abraham Lincoln himself may well appear to welcome the debaters personally. Dr. Royden C.
