His parents found out that he was a hemophiliac (Free Bleeder) at the age of 5 months, when he cut his first tooth, he has become worse with each passing year. At the age of 5 years they also found him to be a diabetic, since this time he has needed insulin each day besides a special diet.. As a result, he has had to have more and more Medical Attention At-tention each year. He is now taking 3 pints ot 8 tactor blood plasma each week. The family is under a very high medical expense. Mr. Smith was injured on the job a couple of years ago and has not been able to work very little since that time. He has been laid up at home completely for the last four months waiting to get into the Veterans Hospital to have back surgery. He has gone to Salt Lake City several times for tests, x-rays etc. and will be handicapped for some time to come. At the present time they are behind on Robert's doctor and hospital bills because of Mr. Smith's injurys and due to the fact that no insurance company will cover Robert. Robert at this time has to have insulin every day, and the last month has been going to the hospital once a week to receive his blood plasmas, which cost about $35.00. that Robert requires has been sold to a company commercially. With this happening all the plasma Robert gets will have to be paid for. In the past, some of his blood had been donated by some of the community to replace the blood that Robert used. This no longer is possible. His plasma alone could run over $1200.00 a year, the specialist in Salt Lake City, Dr. Hersoold, who developed this formula, sent all the plasma he had on hand down to Cedar with Robert's father on Feb. 6, 1974. At the present time Robert has on hand, 20 pints of plasma. It is stored at the Iron Co. Hospital. This is a four to six month supply if he has no extra emergencies. After this is gone he has no means to pay for any more plasma. Our purpose is to try to help raise money to buy the plasma he needs to keep him alive. Here's how you can help ROBERT. We would like to give him a Valentine of LIFE, we would like to have the whole town of Cedar or anyone who would like to help participate in the campaign, or contribute to help give this VALENTINE OF LIFp TO ROBERT.
