Show Public appeal goes out for victims of Sunday fire An appeal for help for a family that lost virtually all of its personal per-sonal possession in a fire Sunday morning has brought overwhelming over-whelming response from residents of the Cedar City area A fire, reported to the Cedar City Volunteer Fire Department at 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning completely destroyed the three-bedroom three-bedroom home of Frank Eustice, located in Monte Vista Subdivision Sub-division No. 2, approximately 12 miles west of Cedar City. According to the fire department depart-ment report the fire was caused by a faulty metal flu and the ensuing fire completely gutted the frame home taking with it all of the possessions of the Eustice family. Total estimated damage was over $20,000. Immediately an appeal went out through the leadership of Don McAllister, Larry Orton, Sheriff Ira Schoppmann, requesting assistance tor this family. By Tuesday of this week the appeal had brought heart warming response in the form of food stuffs, bed clothing, appliances, ap-pliances, cooking utensils and clothing, according to Dave Bentley, who has assumed the responsibility of accumulating the donations at the Cedar City Fire Station. In addition a number of cash contributions has been received. Temporarily the Eustice family has been put up in a Cedar City motel through the generous efforts of Mr. Eustice's employer, em-ployer, Bill Baldwin of Bill's Salvage Yard. Early this week the Eustice family began the process of trying to find a new home. Pick up the pieces and begin a new life. The family moved from California where Mr. Eustice was a machinist, five years ago. The move was for reasons of health." Mr. Eusticestatcs that the , family is determined to rebuild again in Cedar City, what they had done, prior to the fire. The family include a wife, two children, a boy 18 and a daughter 24. Alsolivine with the familv are two grandchildren, a boy 7 and a girl 5. Contributions for all members of the family, household goods were being sought by those issuing the appeal for help. " Dave Bentley, houseman of the Cedar City Fire Department indicated that in his 15 years experience with the department he could not remember a person being so completely wiped out. "Most people have had a family, or insurance, or something to fall back on, but in this case the only thing the Eustice family has is the friends and neighbors of Cedar City and the surrounding area." Members of the fire department depart-ment arrived on the scene at approximately 11:40 a.m. but the home was already a total loss. By the time the fire was reported and the response was made by the volunteer firemen it was too late to save the home and its contents. |
