Show Forest area closed owing to fire hazard The south portion of Black Mountain on the Cedar City Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest has been declared Closed to Public Entry by the Regional Forester, according ac-cording to Ranger Rollo Brunson. This closure was deemed necessary due to the extreme fire hazard and the volume of tinder-dry tinder-dry fuels on the forst floor. The closed area encompasses approximately 1600 acres which is bounded on the south by U-14, on the east by the Uinta Flat Road, on the west by the Duck Creek-Hatch (Mammoth Creek) Road and on the north by a posted work road. The extra hazard is created by the residual thinning slash following last years timber stand improvement work, Special entry into the area can be authorized through permit by the District Ranger. Regular woodcutting and pole permits do not entitle the holder to entry. The Ranger requests public , observance of this closure as well as the campfire and smoking closure. He also urged people to refrain from going into the undeveloped un-developed areas of the forest until a rainstorm relieves the extremely hazardous fire conditions. |
