The pageant, scheduled to take place in Cedar High School is being sponsored by the Cedar City Jaycees. The deadline for entry into the 17th annual Miss Iron County Scholarship Pageant, scheduled in Cedar City Aug. 30-31, has been extended to July 20, Pageant Chairman Bruce Blackner announced. an-nounced. The pageant will select a contestant to represent Iron County in several contests later in the year, including the Miss Utah Contest scheduled for June June 1974. Debbie DeMill of Cedar City has represented the county during the past year. Names of judges and master of ceremonies have not been released, Blackner said. He said all interested girls in Iron County are invited to apply. To qualify, an entrant must be between the ages of 17 and 27, must be single and never have been married, and must have a sponsor. Pageant officials will provide a sponsor for contestants if one is unavailable, Blackner said. All entrants must compete in evening gown, swimming suit and talent competition. The talent number should not last more than three minutes, and will be presented during the first night of the pageant. Contestants will meet the pageant judges at an informal tea the afternoon of Aug. 29. The pageant will be held in conjunction with the Iron County Fair, which begins Sept. 2. The new queen will reign over the fair as her first official function, Blackner said. He said first prize for the winner is a one-year scholarship to attend Southern Utah State College. Other schools give financial awards and prizes to attendants, of which two will be chosen. |
