Defending champion of the tournament was Reed McArthur of St. George w ho turned in an 80 over the 18 holes of play to finish second in the 16 year old division this year. -.-- ? sV X tiff 1 h Jay Don Blake, a 16 year old from St. George walked off with the championship trophy in the Mullet Jewelry Junior Opening held at the Painted Hills Golf Course Monday. He won the traveling trophy presented by Wes Mullet of Cedar City, in a sudden death playoff with Fred Wright, Jr. of Cedar City. Both young men carded 74's in the regulation 18 holes of tor-nament tor-nament play, but Blake won the playoff on the first hole with a birdie. The tournament was a part of the Junior tournament circuit of the state this year and trophies were awarded in each age level. The 29 participants included entries from as far north as American Fork to St. George on the south, according to Brent Orchard, professional at the Painted Hills Golf Course in Cedar City where the tourney was staged. Following is a run down of the finishing, by age: 17 year olds: First Fred Wright, Jr. 74 16 year olds: First, E. J. Corry, Cedar City, 78; second Reed McArthur, St. George, 80 and third, Charles Sorenson, Cedar City, 90. WINS TROPHY. Jay Don Blake of St. George, right, is presented Mullet Jewelry Amateur Golf travel trophy won Monday. He won the trophy in sudden death playoff.
