Show Korean exhibit on display in SUSC library Visitors to the Korean exhibit at the Southern Utah State College library can have the Asian country's culture and traditions explained first-hand by a Korean student attending SUSC. ' Korean student, Sung Young Hong, can be contacted to explain ex-plain the exhibit which continues through January 23 through Mrs. Ramona Chamberlain, circulation cir-culation librarian and exhibit coordinator, at 586-4411, ext. 352. The colorful exhibit includes examples of traditional dress, clothing worn by commoners and the elite, and a number of hand-painted hand-painted screens dolls, statues and wood carving depicting contemporary Korean life. Wall hangings, tapestries, materials relating to the Budhist religion as well as a Korean Book of Mormon are displayed. A costume for Tke Twon Do, a martial art and Korean national sport is displayed as are Zinan Gifseng roots, a valuable export of the country used as an energizer and medical component. com-ponent. Another interesting feature of the exhibit is the Korean flag featuring the Yang and Um, ancient symbol depicting the dualism of the cosmos and the symbols around the flag representing the opposites heaven and earth, fires and water. Materials in the collection were contributed by Sung Young Hong and two return LDS missionaries to Korea, Vern Cox, Orderville, and James Sevy, Bloomington. |
