Show Theme set for SUSC Snow Week I ..,'(! ' j L, l l.tT' I I rii. . .I J Snow Week, SUSC's traditional winter-time extravaganza, arrives on Cedar City's snow laden campus Jan. 19-25 to the theme, "Jimgle Bell Rock," under the direction of chairman Sarah Jane Peterson, JVlh Pleasant. The week begins with a speech by Dr. Richard Nibley, Professor Music at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. This non-denomonational non-denomonational fireside is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. All students and townspeople are invited to attend according to Sarah Jane Peterson, chairman of the event. Snow Week's reigning queen and attendants will be selected from among 20 contestants Jan. 20 at 8:00 p.m. in the auditorium, in the annual Snow Queen Pageant. A preliminary round of Snow Sculpturing Contest on Jan. 23. The sculptures will be built from 1-4 p.m., with the judging at 4:00. Campus clubs and organizations create these snow sculptures in this long-standing SUSC tradidtion, each trying to out-do the others. According to Annette Gardner, West Jordan, chairman, four prizes will be awarded. These include (1) closest to theme, (2) largest sculpture, (3) most humorous, and (4) grand prize.. This year's Snow Week concert, con-cert, Jan. 23, features blues singer Johnny Otis. The concert opens at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Johnny Otis has been a professional musician since his debut in 1940. He has been acclaimed by some to be "the godfather of rhythm and blues." Mike Moore, West Covina, Calif., is actyig as concert chairman. The Snow Ball formal dance highlights the evening of Jan. 24 beginning at 9 p.m. in the large ballroom. According to Larry Chatterley, Cedar City, dance chairman, the group, "Soft Impressioas," will provide the music for the dance. The floor show will feature modern, soul and jazz dance selections under the chairmanship of Patti Jenkins, Salt Lake City, and Mary Grossbeck, Richfield Concluding Snow Week's activities ac-tivities will be a full day of ski races on Jan. 25. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. at Brian Head Ski Resort. Barry Church, Huntington Beach, Calif., is the chairman for the ski races. All students and townspeople are invited to attend. "We have a lot of very talented girls in this pageant, and we want to encourage students and local residents to attend both the preliminary and final judging," stated June Stewart, St. George, pageant chairman. Each of the 20 girls was nominated to run for Snow Queen by the various organizations on campus. Judging is based on beauty and poise (25 percent), personality (25 percent), and talent (50 percent). The President's Cup trophy will also be awarded at the pageant. Wood's Ranch is the scene for the activity on Jan. 21 of Snow Week. Robin Haight, Cedar City, serves as chairman for this event. He, along with the LDSSA, has planned a number of games and activities for this campus-wide campus-wide affair. Refreshments will also be provided. "The Getaway," starring Ali McGraw and Steve McQueen, highlights the evening of Jan. 22. The movie begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Large Ballroom. Dave Jeffery, Delta, is acting as chairman for the movie. A foot-stompin' foot-stompin' Hootenany will follow the movie at 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Patti Craig, Basking i Ridge, New Jersey.
