Show At January meeting County Commission opposes pay increases for State officers tabled items were the following: -A verbal request from Cedar City Corporation to cooperate in the installation of a storm drain in the immediate vicinity of the Valley View Medical Center. -A petition for the oiling of a segment of the Airport Koad, and a link road connecting the Airport Air-port Road and the Lund Highway. High-way. --A request by Kerry Hold of Escalanto Valley to either purchase or lease a tract of land adjoining 'his farm currently being used as a garbage dump. The commission was to deter mine it the property did. in fact, belong to Iron County, and if so the justification nl the request. - A request from the State Foresters otfice to contract for fire fighting services on a year round basis. Currently the commission participates only during the period of high fire danger. The Commission presented a letter, for information purposes, considering the policy and guiillines of the County Planning and Zoning Commission, by its chairman, James Sandberg. They also approved, upon his acceptance, the appointment of Harold S. Mitchell to the Planning Plan-ning and Zoning Commission to replace Arnold Gurr, who resigned. A report on the progress by the Civil Defense was made by H. E. Christensen and Dave Bentley. They reported that they had acquired a 750 gpm pump and were given permission to pick the unit up. Christensen was also authorized to obtain information on the possible purchase of a snow blower, but that purchase would require commission authorization. Iron County Commission in meeting Wednesday, Jan. 8 approved a resolution and directed that it be forward to members of the Iron County State legislative delegation and to Sid Atkin of Washington County, opposing proposed increases in-creases for top state officials. The commission felt that the levels of increase presently being requested for state officials are excessive, especially in light of the present state of the economy. Commission members also took under advisement and approved the adoption of an ordinance that would prohibit the discharge of fire arms at night, with the exception of peace officers of-ficers and under given circumstances cir-cumstances by property owners.. The action was taken in light of a recent proclamation by the State Wildlife Resources which in substance nullifies prior action taken by the Iron County Commissioners. Com-missioners. Approval was granted by the Commission for the Iron County Sheriff Department to purchase a used vehicle from the Highway Patrol at a cost of $1150. Sheriff Ira Schoppmann was also authorized to negotiate with the Highway Patrol the purchase of lead free gasoline for the 1975 vehicles, since Iron County has no lead-free storage capacity at this time. Several items were reviewed by the commission and tabled for further study. Included in the |
