Show cost of CUP skyrockets "If construction of the Bonneville Utah of the Central Utah Project continues con-tinues at the 1978 rate, approximately ap-proximately $700 million will be added to its cost by inflation," Congressman Dan Marriott said Saturday. "This figure is arrived at by costing the project out at the present level, adding 15 percent to the unexpended costs each year for inflation, and then subtracting the eight-year total from the 22-year 22-year inflation total. Fifteen percent may seem high, but cost increases have run that high in recent years," Congressman Marriott said. "When you add the loss of benefits that would come to Utah by having our water available to us in eight, years instead of dragging completion com-pletion out to the 22 years that it will take at present support levels, the total loss to Utah is in the billions of dollars and just near in-. in-. calculable," Mr. Marriott said. President Carter oil her doesn't know or he doesn't care that water is Utah's lifeblood," the Utah Republican said. "It is easy to get angry with the apparent ap-parent duplicity of the Cart e r Administration where they constantly say one thing and do.another, but the fact is that we have got our work cut out for us," Congressman M a r r r i o 1 1 said. |
