And that's the idea behind this year's quilt contest for the Festival of the American West at Utah Slate University. "We're encouraging quilters throughout the state to create an original design from one or more traditional quilt patterns," Theta Johnson, USU Extension clothing specialist, announced. an-nounced. The top entries will be exhibited and judged at the Festival July 29 - Aug. 5 in Logan. Quilts for this year's exhibit must be of an original design inspired by a traditional pattern, such as "Log Cabin," "Star," "Rose of Sharon," "Pine Tree," etc. Entries may be made by individuals or groups and must have been constructed within the past five years. Each must be haridquilted with traditional materials, (no tied or yarn quilted entries will be accepted) and documentation of the traditional designs used must accompany the entry. Quilts should be twin bod size or larger. Prizes will be awarded to the top state winners. First place carries a $200 prize. Second place is $100; third, $.r)(); and two honorable |
