' '' ''' Cedar City's Kim Niclson, a sophomore at Brigharn Young University opened the 1978 indoor track and field season with a literal bang Saturday when he set three new BYU records. Neilson, participating in the BYU Invitational, the first meet of the season for the Cougars, cleared the bar at seven feet three inches. The invitational meet was staged at the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse on the BYU campus. Neilson's records included a new BYU Indoor high jump record, a new record for a BYU jumper and an indoor record for the Smith Fieldhouse. The spectacular leap was the highlight of the Invitational In-vitational meet, according to his coach Clarence Robinson. Robin-son. "I've been expecting Neilson to go that high," Robinson stated. "He's been looking good in practice," he commented. This week Neilson will be with the Cougars at an indoor in-door meet scheduled in Poeatello, Idaho and hosted by Idaho State. The meet is scheduled for Saturday. According to Neilson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Neilson of Cedar City efforts are being made to include Kim in an invitational meet scheduled early in February at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. The BYU Indoor schedule includes meets at I'rovo Feb. 4 and 11, and meet at Flagstaff Feb. 18, the WAC meet at Picatello Feb. 24 and 25 and the NCAA finals at Detroit, Mich, in March. KIM NKH.SON |
