Show Mayor makes Parowan Appointments action and Councilman Adams seconded. The vote was unanimous. Councolman Joseph discussed the police department and reported on a recent meeting of the Safety Committee. He reviewed the possibility of having a police phone installed in-stalled at the Power Plant. He agreed to follow through on possible solutions and alternatives. Councilman Adams reported on his recent attendance at-tendance at the regular session of the Iron County Commission. He stated that the Commission had approved ap-proved using their heavy equipment on the proposed Little League Ballpark for excavating work. The Council again reviewed the Karl Myers junk car situation. Attorney Isom agreed to contact Mr. Myers concerning the problem. A bill from Clayton Tullis was presented to the Council for repair on his furnace claimed to have been damaged due to power outages during December, 1977. The claim will be turned over to the city's insurance company for review. The contract between Parowan City and the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation for proposed improvements at the swimming pool and park was presented to the Council. The Council approved ap-proved the document and authorized Mayor Robinson to sign and forward to the state agency. PAROWAN - Parowan City Council met on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, January 18, and the meeting was called to order by Mayor James Robinson. Councilmen present were Howard Joseph, Gayle Wood, Roy Benson Jr., Frank Adams, and Frankie Lou Bentley. City Attorney Orville Isom was also present. Mayor Robinson presented a petition filed by ' 14 citizens requesting that parallel parking be enforced across the street south of the high school. The citizens' complaint was that hazardous traffic situations were caused by the vehicles being parked at various angles. The Council took the matter under advisement and the high school officials will be requested to review the matter also before further action is taken. Mayor Robinson reported on a recent conversation with Larry Anderson of the State Board of Water Resources. Mr. Anderson advised that plans should proceed for the larger water line in the canyon, even though the water rights issue between the City and the Reservoir Company is not settled. Mayor Robinson recommended that the following citizens be approved ap-proved by the Council for positions on the city Library Board: Frankie Lou Bentley, Ben-tley, Rose Vlise Gurr, Chester Benson, Maxine Stolk and Beverly Taylor. The positions were approved. ap-proved. A recommendation for approval of the following people to serve on the Planning and Zoning Board was also presented by Mayor Robinson: Joan Mortenson, Chairpoerson, Randy Lamoreaux, Ted Burton, Ed Whitaker, Carol Wright, and Frankie Lou Bentley. The recommendation recom-mendation was approved. Mayor Robinson also reported that it was his recommendation that the City Steering Committee be dissolved with a vote of thanks for the work accomplished ac-complished in the past. The Council approved the action. The Council discussed the possibility of compiling and revising the City Ordinances in a more organized system. Mayor Robinson recommended recom-mended that Attorney Harold D. Mitchell be called to do the work. Councilman Wood requested that Mayor Robiason consult Mr. Mitchell Mit-chell further before approval ap-proval by the Council. The Council agreed to postpone any actionpending further discussions with Mr. Mitchell. Mit-chell. Sherman D a 1 1 o n , representing D & O Sanitation, told the Council that he had heard a rumor that a Council member had accused him of reporting to the State Health Board that Parowan City was in conflict of the state law in the operation of the city dump. Mayor Robinson agreed to formulate a letter to Mr. Dalton to "clear the air" on this matter. The Council discussed the proposed sidewalk improvement im-provement project on west second south street. Councilman Benson reported that the State Department of Transportation Tran-sportation and the City had recently signed documents in which $12,000.00 will be forwarded to the City from the state for the project. He further stated that the porject had to be started by June 1st of this year in order to be eligible for the funding. The Council reviewed the problem of the large field irrigation ditch along second south and the proposal to pipe the water to the fields. Mayor Robinson agreed to contact the DOT for some preliminary cost estimates. The Council reviewed the proposal to initiate 30 minute parking near the Bank of Iron County and the Post Office on Center Street. .Councilman Joseph recommended that this be revised to one hour parking. Councilwoman Bentley motioned to approve this |
