Show Dixie College Western States Music Festival The Western States Music Festival begins this week at Dixie College. The two week long music camp features workshops and classes by many of the finest music educators and instrumental specialists in the Intermountain States. Special recitals and concerts featuring these clinicians and students will be held throughout the two week special music clinic -many of which will be free to the public. This is the first year that the Festival has been held in the Southern Utah area and with the support of the people it is hoped that it can become an annual summer musical event. A special concert by the Festival Symphony Band will be given in Cedar City, Thursday evening, June 22 at 8 p.m. at the LDS Institute of Religion. It will be free to the public. The Festival, which is jointly sponosred by the Utah Arts Council, The National Endowment of the Arts, Washington D.C., and the Southern Utah Arts Council, is for Jr. High and Sr. High School music students from all over the western United States. Other events include: Thursday, June 15, A Faculty Recital, Dixie College Fine Arts Center, 8 : 00 p. m . ; Tuesday, June 20, Special Jazz Concert by the Festival Jazz Band in the Dixie College Fine Arts Center, 8:00 p.m.; Wednesday, Wed-nesday, June 21, Special Band Concert by the Festival Symphony Band at the new Zion Park Am-pitheatre, Am-pitheatre, Zion National Park, 8:00 p.m. and Friday, June 23, Final Concert by the Festival Symphony Band, Dixie College Fine Arts Center, 8:00 p.m. All concerts and recitals are free to the public-donations public-donations will be accepted. The Western States Music Festival is a non profit organization jointly sponsored spon-sored by the Utah Arts Council, The National Endowment En-dowment of the Arts, Washington D.C., and the Southern Utah Arts Council. |
