The Parowan High School Parowa.i Girls track and field team captured first place in the Class 1A competition held this past week in Provo. Anita Green Stars at Meet PHS Girls win First State Track Crown who have made this year such a profitable one, and congratulates the girls for their fine performances. The team would also like to extend a special thanks to Bob Tobler for his help and the the townspeople who have been so supportive of them. PAROWAN - Saturday amidst severe adverse weather conditions the PUS girls varsity track team claimed its first state athletic crown. The 10 hour meet was held at the BYU Stadium at Provo. The Rams had previously won the Region title on May 3 at SUSC and had qualified eight girls for state competition. com-petition. : Anita Green had a very ood day coining away with two gold medals in the 100 yard dash and the 220 yard dash. Anita ran the 220 in a 27.0 time just .06 seconds off the Class 1A state record. Second place finishes for Parowan included an exciting ex-citing run by Diane Gurr in the 80 yard low hurdles and the 440 yard dash. Maria Robinson also placed 2nd in the 880 yard run. The 440 yard relay team also brought home a 2nd place with Anita Green, Diane Gurr, Linda Her-mansen Her-mansen and Maria Robinson participating The mile realy team placed 2nd in the state also with Gaelene Mitchell, Lisa Stolk, Diane Adams and Michelle Bentley on the team. A fourth place finish was recorded in the discus by Michelle Bentley. Fifth place finishes consisted of Anita in long ; jump and Linda Hermanen in 220 yard dash. Final totals recorded Parowan with 66 points followed by North Summit with 60 and Green River 3rd with 59. The PHS girls have good reason to be proud of this seasons accomplishments ac-complishments and will be right at the top again next year, as this year's team sported one junior and seven freshmen.
